The neighborhood - The city

Location of Riad Sheryne:

The Douh district is part of the upper part of the medina. There are many small restaurants, the Batha Palace-museum and access to Bab Boujloud.

Bab Boujloub (the blue door)

It is the western gateway to the medina.   The link between the medina and the El Jdid district, the Mellah and the entire area of the Royal Palace, before the new town.

It is also the start of the Talaas, the 2 main streets of the old town of Fez with theirs shops, their bazaar, then   the souks, the different quarters of craftsmen  and their foundouks or caravanserais.

We continue for the Médersa Attarine before arriving at la Quaraouine with its large library and the place Sefarine, place of the copper hammers.

Finally, until  the river, with the tanners' quarter, before finish on la place R'cif,   tourist landmark, indicated everywhere or not the Medina.

Outside the walls - The region

Particularity of Fez, the new city, and today les recent neighborhoods, developed most often in the west, on the great plain.   Thus, the medina remains very close to the green hills, the countryside and fields of olive trees.

To the south, on the road to Saiss, the rapid development of new districts does not prevent the airport from still being surrounded by large fields of olive trees.   This is also the road to the resort of Ifrane only 65 km, and yet already at an altitude of 1700 m.   It cools off there in summer - often more than 10° difference with Fez -   and there is snow in winter. You can continue towards the cedar forests, the valley of the magot monkeys then reach the small town of Azrou and the first foothills of the Atlas.
